Lt. George Eddy, USNR, was a Naval Aviator, ending WWII as a fighter pilot on the USS INTREPID. He also romanced and married Kathryn Corbett, an airline hostess, after a challenging courtship. Now together for 67 years, their lives reflect the many opportunities of the Greatest Generation . Georges career grew at Parker Pen and Bell & Howell, then after an unusual switch to top executive for Party Tyme cocktail mixes in NYC, he recalls his greatest success as Publisher of Sailing World magazine for the NY Times. Kathryn became an acclaimed painter, then an icon in the world of contemporary crafts with galleries in Greenwich and Manhattan. Blessed with an interesting family, they have sailed and traveled the world to bring us exciting tales. Now consolidating his three previous books into a concise memoir, George invited his friend and fellow resident at Aegis Assisted Living, Lewis O???Rourke to contribute similar stories of his Silent Generation in the Vietnam War and social upheaval of the Hippy and Yuppie generations. In 1935, newborn Lou ORourke went home to old Gold Rush town La Porte, his mile high Sierra home - the last miles by sleigh over a snow covered dirt road. It was a town still living in the Nineteenth Century with no electricity. In 1940, his parents split and his mother moved to Los Angeles where Lou joined the Twentieth Century with a bang - Shopping Malls, McDonalds and the Beach Boys. At UCLA ROTC, he signed up for a military career hoping for an exciting overseas life. He got his fair share of that, but 15 years of Active Duty ended after two Vietnam tours and our withdrawal including an Army reduction in force. Landing home one day off the battlefield, Lou found no heros welcome from the Pepsi Generation. However, the GI Bill made him a lawyer which eventually led to a Subcontracts Manager career with Bechtel, the overseas construction giant, and return to worldwide travel. The story of George and Lous success in the societal revolutions of the fifties and sixties Cold War era is something unexpected and, in many ways, perhaps the less told but more interesting side of those tumultuous times.
