The BEST author ever

I read almost all of her books as a kid! Now that I am an adult, I look for books to read but none catch my interest. So, I went and bought all of my favorite books by Mary Downing Hahn and I have read almost all of them again. Including the prequels to this book. AWESOME BOOKS!!!!

As Ever, Gordy

Do you like comedy and realistic stories? If so, Mrs. Hahn has the book for you. Mrs. Hahn pays exquisite attention to the smallest details. In this book, Gordy's grandmother, with whom he lives, dies, sending him to live with his brother Stewart. He lives with Stewart in the town that he used to live in, before he moved in with his grandmother. This book is the exciting and amazing story of him reengaging friendship with old friends, and establishing a life in his old town, College Hill. Read this book, to see what will happen to Gordy in this wonderful tale from Mary Downing Hahn. I would strongly recommend this book to any one who wants a good humored, and well written book to read.

wonderful book, you'll love it

Mary Downing Hahn is a great author, it is a wonderful book. Make sure you read the first to books before, stepping on the cracks, and following my own footsteps.

Gordy faces trouble as he returns to his old town.

Gordy Smith has only one choice when his grandmothe dies: Go back to his old town in Maryland where he is hated and ignored. Attracted to his old friend and rival. "Lizard". Gordy is baffled on how to show that to her. Two thumbs up.

Gordy faces continuing problems as he returns to Maryland.

Gordy is still an angry young man. The sudden death of his grandmother mean that he and June must return to Maryland to live with his brother, his wife and her son, who is not pleased with having an older brother to share a room. Gordy soon finds himself running with the same crowd which got him in trouble in the first place. He meets "Lizard" and is attracted by her but unable to find the right way to let her know this. When everything comes to a climax as Gordy and Lizard's boy friend get in a fight at a school dance and Gordy is later persuaded to throw cherry bombs in the foyer of a professor's house the reader is sure that Gordy will finally be really punished. But Lizard's dad, Gordy's understanding sister-in-law, and a surprising understanding principal work to get Gordy started on what might finally be a positive direction. The characters are excellent and while reading the book, I was often saying to myself, "Oh, No, Gordy, don't do that". Very realistic and a good sequel. For the older readers who can understand his feelings. Could, perhaps, use with Wringer and other stories by Spinelli.
