ARCO presents the updated edition of How To Interpret Poetry, offering valuable tips and insights to help students understand and appreciate poetic verse.
This book delivers exactly what it promises -- a concise but informative and helpful introduction into the art of interpreting poetry. Laurie E. Rozakis's guide offers definitions of poetic devices and brief explanations of how and why each device used. She offers sample poems and questions for the reader to consider regarding each poem, followed by possible answers to the questions. I found this format very helpful for giving me confidence that I'd be able to apply what I was reading to poems I might read in the future. Keep in mind that this book is strictly an introduction, and only 126 pages. You won't walk away an expert in poetic analysis, but in my case, I find myself much better equipped to appreciate poetry and eager to learn more on the subject.
