A Must Read!

A must read for anyone interested in history and government, regardless of political party. This author gives the reader their first look into the private and political life of Arch Moore by using extensive research, personal interviews, and his own personal knowledge and experience. This book is informative, interesting, and easy to read. I predict it will be read and studied by many over the years,as it should.

Well written and truthful

Ever since I sat a across a rickety lunch table in Charleston and heard Brad Crouser tell stories from the Arch Moore years, I have looked forward to his book on West Virginia's most colorful politician. That was over a year ago. Today the true story of Arch Moore is available to everyone. Of course, we all know Arch's storied career had a blemish. Brad Crouser covers it in explicit detail (page 592), pulling no punches. In spite of being 704 pages, it is an compelling read that gives enough detail to be interesting, but stops short of bogging down with too much information.

You're going to LOVE this book!

One might expect a 700 page book on a former governor of a small state to be dry and boring, but this is just exactly opposite of that. It's full of funny and insightful stories and quotes that bring to life the politics of West Virginia in the past decades. Crouser, who observed a lot of this story first-hand, reveals the good, the bad and the interesting about Moore, Senators Byrd, Rockefeller, Randolph and many others. They all come to life in this easy-to-read book. It should be devoured by any student of politics, history and government who wants to know what the "real world" is all about (rather than the textbook version).

Fascinating book!

This book is a must read for any student of history or politics. The author offers an unbiased review of an important public figure in West Virginia, one whose life has been filled with achievements, failures and controversy. Whether you love or hate Arch Moore, this book will add to your knowledge and understanding of his actions and his motivations. Because the author interviewed extensively Moore's friends and enemies alike (as well as Moore himself), readers benefit from a variety of viewpoints which will inform their own conclusions.
