Since the mid-1990s, there is increasing academic debate on the scrutiny role of national parliaments over their governments in EU affairs. Most contributions focus on the description of control and the explanation of variance in control between the various member states of the European Union (e.g. Bergman 1997, 2000; Maurer und Wessels 2001; Raunio 2005).
