Book Overview

"Indian reservations" were the United States' ultimate solution to the "problem" of what to do with native peoples who already occupied the western lands that Anglo settlers wanted. Perry considers the historical development of the reservation system and its contemporary relationship to the American state, with comparisons to similar phenomena in Canada, Australia, and South Africa.

Excellent Apache resource

An excellent resource on the Western Apaches, in particular, and the other Apache tribe in general. The author has spent a great deal of time on the San Carlos Reservation and knows his subject.
