Things haven't been going well for attorney BRON BROCK. Tricked out of his share of a law firm, dumped by his spoiled ex-model girlfriend, he's lost his Mercedes to vandals and his mom to a stroke. The only bright spot in his life is ANGELINA, the spirited beauty who runs the daycare center next to his home. Unfortunately, Angelina won't give him the time of day. She's obsessed with FINN, whose kids have been taken away by an overzealous DCFS officer. Finn, a widowed, out-of-work physicist, is wrongly accused of abusing his two kids. To show the court he's a responsible parent, he may have to abandon working on his antigravity device to make a decent living again. Bron embezzles money from a trust fund and, in an effort to get in Angelina's good graces, becomes Finn's benefactor. Angelina shows some compassion for him, but with Finn's kids being put up for adoption, Angelina warns him that time is running out. Angelina keeps taking good care of Finn. Thinking his chances are going down the drain, Bron tells Angelina he's not afraid of a commitment and asks her to move in with him in a nice mansion he's looking to buy. Angelina freaks out when she learns that Finn plans to commit suicide and Bron has offered help in writing the suicide letter. As his luck only gets worse, Bron becomes fed up with urban life and decides to move back to the quiet of Arkansas, where he grew up. Agitated by recent events, Bron accidentally causes a turnpike collision on his way to the airport. Thinking he is trapped inside his burning car, Angelina desperately breaks into it. She risks her life, only to find him lying by the side of the road, still alive. Bron would never have believed that someone would risk their life to save his. Feeling loved for the first time ever, Bron decides to help Finn get his kids back. Bron convinces the, by now, lethargic fellow to go to the woodsy home of the DCFS officer to make her see what is wrong. Pistol-whipping the officer, they make their case.
