I am not alone...

I am a first time mother and our 5-month-old was recently diagnosed blind. There were times when I had to put this book down--the emotions were too much to bear. I appreciated the naive point of view because it is closer to my personal perspective. The book shows Mrs Henderson's personal growth as well as the steps of her blind child Davy. It touches on the deeply personal choice not to give birth to another child, but instead, to adopt. There was much that is positive and can help give the lay-person a better perspective.

Simple but moving

Lois Henderson's son, David, was born blind. Another Way of Seeing is the story of how long it took her to find this out, how she and her husband adjusted to the shock, and how they helped Davey grow to be everything he could be.This is a true story and a wonderful book. However, it is written from a naive point of view (as Lois herself admits in the new preface), so I felt it lacked some of the insights that might be helpful to others undergoing the same experience. Still, it is a beautiful story.
