Henry lives in the far Nordland. His father left the family at an early age without ever returning. Henry's uncle now takes on his role. But the world comes apart at the seams when Henry overhears a strange conversation between his mother and uncle, as well as a strange figure whose powers prevent Henry from pursuing her, or even finding out her identity.
Barely surviving, disaster approaches: Henry, still a child, finds his uncle one night with his stomach slashed open. From here on, things escalate. Henry has barely learned to hunt from his brother when he is put into the service of the Norse army. He is to fight alongside his countrymen in the war against the Kingdom of the South.
In search of his father and answers, Henry is drawn to the south, where dark forces are just waiting to impose a new era on the world.
The past turns out to be much more complicated and incomprehensible than anything he knows.
