This is a wonderful addition to the series "Books For Young Explorers" published by the National Geographic Society. This particular book was first published in 1988. This work consists of the very high quality that National Geographic has been known for over the years. The majority of the photographs are of animals, in the wild and many emphasize young animals. There are no "staged" photographs here. The text is quite simple, explaining each photograph and giving information on each critter featured. The author has incerted questions for the children here and there which is great for discussion and to get their wonderful little minds working. The book is quite well made and should hold up well. This is a fun read together book, as the text is ideal for children (although adults will find it interesting also) and the beautiful photographs are a pleasure to the eye of any age. I highly recommend this one.
Colorful Photographs Are A Must-See!

I own four books in this series, and I hope that they've made more. My parents bought these for me when they were first printed (1988) and I've kept them because they're so wonderful. I'm thrilled now to be able to take these books into my classroom and share them with my students. The photographs in these books are simply outstanding, and the text is written at an appropriate level for children to understand. It even occasionally asks questions, like "Can you find the one on this plant that has wings?" or "Do you think that the goose can scare the skunk away?" This particular book covers many different animals that can be seen in the summer months. At the end of the book is more information about the animals for adults or higher-level readers to enjoy. If you're not sure whether this book is for you, I highly recommend that you look for it in your local public library. I think that you'll agree that it's a wonderful find!
Animals in summer

I like Kids Want to Know Animals in Summer because I love animals. I think you should read this book because it tells a lot about a whole bunch of animals' lives. I learned about how all animals act in summer. I would recommend it to kids from five to ten years old who love animals.
