Jo's initiation into a New Age cult situated in the sticks leads her into a very different lifestyle to the one she's accustomed to at home. After taking part in bizarre sexual rites during the summer, will she ever want to return to normal society?
One of the best Black Lace books I have read. We follow Jo's adventures as a sassy, sexy young woman who dreams of a cat-like abandoned alter ego. Her journeys take her to the wild side of fantasy in a cult who practise shape changing magic. What I loved were the wideranging characters - the sexy artist couple, the cute guys and girls at the cult and of course the leader Michael himself. A lot of this is dreamlike and full of the powers of nature and I guess the whole book is about our natural, animal passions. This goes beyond the usual cut-out, boring action between couples. If your fantasies go beyond the wilder limits to group, girl and girl and cross species you will want to buy this fast. I recommend.
An erotic novel not for everyone's tastes

I've read quite a few of the Black Lace novels, and I haven't been impressed by all of them. My personal tastes veer towards erotic encounters by mutual consent, not BDSM. I've always enjoyed erotic novels where the main character is attempting to explore new boundaries, so Animal Passions suits me fine. The erotic passages at the end of the book are probably the most intense I've ever read. In some cases I think it crosses the line into bestiality, certainly not a topic I feel comfortable discussing much less reading about. Despite these misgivings, the other erotic encounters are very vividly described, and are quite satisfying. The reason for taking away 1 star is because I'm waiting for Martine Marquand to write a sequel. A novel like this is just begging for a follow on!
"Animal Passions", A Revealing Title

Jo wanders into a commune that smacks of a new-agey milieu we have traveled before. She (the author, Ms. Marquand)seemingly points us in familiar directions. She shapes the pyramids of sexual excitement in graphic terms succeding I think at the level of intended arousal, but again deftly warns us there is more to be revealed. Jo, and the other characters are lusty and prolific in their sexual couplings, and display the obligatory hetero-gay-voyeur/exhibitionism we have come to expect and receive from most Black Lace Books. It is when Ms Marquand takes us to the next stage that she reveals her skills and knowledge and sensitivity to areas of human sexuality rarely read or discussed openly, although altogether quite well-known on the therapist's sofa. She craftily leads us to the inevitable,(on her terms)taking us to the now expected and desired end of animal passions. This story is not for everyone, even hardened (no pun) readers of erotica. Still, we have been forwarned, and that stated, I would recommend the book to any adult reader. Irwin Moss, LA mooseman01@aol.com
Wild At Heart!

What can I say? A near perfectly crafted sumptuously sexy story. Wefollow 19 year old Jo from a repressive mission house (where she isalready driving a 17 year old boy wild and having a lesbian affair with her roommate) to a new age commune in the Yorkshire countryside, where the charismatic shaman, Michael, is conducting experiments in shape-shifting.The story is well paced, with both sex and story developing and getting wilder throughout. Martine avoids the slightly contrived feel of her previous novel, "A Feast For The Senses". There is a clear comparison drawn between the pleasure and promiscuity of the commune and the austerity of the mission house, but fortunately Martine resists the temptation to get too preachy and we discover that even the commune is not quite as free as Jo at first believes (there's always a catch isn't there!).An exciting and sexy read. I recommend it unreservedly!
