Angels Came Running: The Trauma of Hurricane Andrew is a very inspiring and heart warming personal narrative written by a south Florida woman, Dena Cobb. The book holds your attention from the first page on. It describes how overnight life radically changed for those in the path of Hurricane Andrew ( the costliest natural disaster to ever strike the U.S.) It gives accounts of people who were trapped in their homes trying to survive, and how caring volunteers from all across the country came and helped the victims pick up the pieces of their lives and begin recovery. A particular story in the book is about a big red dog who came to a family at midnight and stayed in their torn up home and guarded them for weeks. The book poinantly describes how the people in south Florida helped each other and how strangers came bearing food, water, and encouragement. The book is very refreshing and inspiring. As you read, you feel like you know the people in the book. Your faith in your fellowman is quite restored. It's a good book that will enrich your life and would make a wonderful Christmas gift for any home.
