Book Cover: "France's daughter of joy seeks lusty new adventures as a Sultan's pampered slave Angelique one of the most irresistible heroines in the history of fiction. Saucy, emerald-eyed slave of passion, Angelique's stormy adventurer have taken her from the gutters of Paris to the harems of Africa to the silken prison of a king. Angelique begins a perilous search for her lost love in the lawless, savage world of the Mediterranean, where her beauty is plunder for pirates, treasure for the slave traders, a helpless plaything for the lust-crazed Sultan." That does say it all. I haven't read this book in over 30 years or I would give you a review, but I will say that I have carried it from one country to the next, its been one of my most favorite books and as soon as my memories starts to dim a bit more I will read it again.

Angelique in Barbary was probably one of my favorite of the series, particularly in retrospect after having continued with the series and discovering the far reaching ramifications of the events that took place during this time of her life. I read the entire series when I was 15 years old (I'm now 44) and I can vividly remember the aching yearning I experienced as she struggled in the Sultan's harem and eventually escaped with Colin (and oh how I wished she had not escaped. If she had only been patient a little longer). Sergeanne Golon succeeds one again in weaving a web of seductive mystery with Angelique that transports the reader to another time and another place, revealing our own desires for a more adventerous existence from deep within ourselves. Angelique is truly a remarkable character of passion, beauty and adventure.
