You thought it couldn't get any better...

I loved "One Wore Blue" so much and my hopes were high for the story of Jesse's brother, Daniel Cameron. This book grabbed me from the very first pages. The story of the Confederate soldier in love with the Yankee lady may seem to be cliche, but Heather Graham does it with such emotion, such passion, such depth that it seems like a brand new story. As with the story of Jesse and Kiernan, Daniel and Callie's story is rife with emotional turmoil. The characters are easy to fall in love with and you find yourself aching for them to find their way to each other. I get quite frustrated with the stories that have the hero and heroine endlessly fighting and bickering, but with Heather Graham (especially this particular trilogy), the tension is always deeper than selfishness, or the lead characters merely being irritated by each other. When Callie goes running after Daniel right before he is captured, you hold your breath wanting desperately for them to be able to avoid the pain you see coming. When Daniel thinks that Callie has betrayed him, your heart breaks knowing what a horrible misunderstanding has occurred and you are right there with them in the midst of their pain and longing for each other. This book not only lived up to my high expectations, it surpassed them. This is a MUST READ, as is its predecessor.

What a romance!!

This story takes place in the 1800's during the civil war. Callie finds an enemy soldier dying on her front lawn and can't bare to just leave him to die. She takes Daniel in and nurses him back to health. They fall in love very fast but Callie is forced to betray Daniel to save his life. He hates her for it and swears to return for her one day...for revenge. When they meet again will there firey romance rekindle or will hatred take over? I LOVED this book! It is only the second romance I have read and I have to admit that I am an addict now! You can just feel Daniel and Callie's love for eachother! I have to say though, the war parts were boring to me. I found my self speed reading through the parts where Daniel was fighting in the war. I just wanted to get back to reading about him and Callie together. The book didn't grab my attention at first but I am so glad I stuck with it because it really does grab it eventually and leaves you not able to put it down! A must read if you enjoy reading about passionate romances.

Fabulous romance and ACCURATE history

So much Civil War fiction is BAD Civil War fiction. People who buy Civ War to read Civ War will catch mistakes in a moment; and Heather Graham just doesn't make them. She knows the period and uses it as a backdrop for fabulous romances. The only mistake is in the artwork - Daniel Cameron is wearing captain's insignia instead of a colonel's three stars on his uniform. The romance is heartbreaking and humorous by turn; two people from opposite philosophies on the war fall in love and must find their peace amid a desperate struggle. Highly recommend!

Best Book

I have to admit that this was my favorite one out of the series. The story of Daniel and Callie was well written. It gave more information about the Southern point of view during the Civil War. I've read this book many times and never get tired of it.

I agree- it does keep getting better!

One Wore Blue starts with the beginning of the Civil War and is the Cameron family's view point of the war- it is especially concerned with the brother (Jesse Cameron) who feels that he must fight on the Union side of the war. (A great book!) And One Wore Gray is the 2nd story of Graham's Civil War trilogy about the Cameron Family- the reader now gets a glimpse of the war fought from the Confederate side. Daniel Cameron, brother to Jesse (the Union sergeon)is a Confederate Cavalier. The story picks up approximately half way through the war (where One Wore Blue stopped) when Daniel is wounded (for a second time) during a battle on a farmland in Maryland. Callie Michaelson is a widow of a Union solder that is living on family property alone, trying to hold things together until her brothers are able to return from the war. Daniel ends up at her home and even though Callie is a very strong Union supporter, she recognizes Daniel as being a human being in need of medical help, instead of looking at him strictly as her enemy. She takes him in to nurse him while he steals her heart. During his recover of a approximately a week they are able to forget the war and live a fantasy of what life might be like if only the war... But then Daniel must leave to return to his Confederate cause. Callie is caught- having to make the decision of letting Daniel escape and be killed by the Yankee soldiers that now know of his existance or call him back to be captured and possibly go to Yankee prison camp. Will Daniel ever forgive her? Will she be able to let him know that she loves him? And this all happens right about the beginning. It is a great story. I appreciated how Ms. Graham continued the story from one book to another. She ends the war with One Wore Gray. The ending is great! I cried. I also appreciated how she continued Jesse and Kiernan's love story through One Wore Gray. I highly recommend reading this- but try to read One Wore Blue first so you will get the whole picture. I am looking forward to getting And One Went West. It is about the sister of the Cameron Brothers.
