This book saved my life!

In 2007 I developed Chronic Neutropenia after a series of four serious surgeries and I didn't know it. It is a disorder that is caused from lack of sufficient white blood cells. I just kept getting sicker and sicker until I couldn't get out of the bed most days from being so weak. The doctor's finally caught it in November of 2009 AFTER going over three years of lab work and telling me that it had become chronic!!!! I was always sick, at least once a month I was in bed with the flu or a virus. I got this book and started with trying the bone soup recipe and within three weeks I was over the Chronic Neutropenia. I doubled and almost ((tripled)) my white blood cell count using the recipe!!!! This was amazing!! I feel so much better and I am able to exercise a few times per week as well as walking. This is a wonderful book and it has helped me in so many ways!

One of my favorites.

I've loved this book from day one of reading it. Its truly one worth owning, lending, & /or giving. Its well rounded & leaves you feeling full of peace & healthy knowledge on taking better care to heal yourself or better choosing your P.Care P. I hope you make this purchase and greatly enjoy it! :D

A different perspective on women's health

This is a great book for women. Interesting and very informative. I learned a lot about women's health from reading this. Good information on healing and why certain conditions come about. Includes dietary information and a few recipes. This explains how our health is largely a matter of balance and harmony within our bodies and our emotions have a major role. I wish more Dr's. would realize and practice this way. It seems to me, after reading this that TCM treats the cause where western medicine treats the effect. Zhao found that in some of her patients "emotional sickness was more debilitating that many of their physical symptoms." I was impressed that Zhao underwent psychotherapy so as to be able to better connect with her patients. Chosen to become a medical doctor, Zhao practiced as a general surgeon in China and imigrated to Canada where she now has her practice of womens health and healing using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This gives a new perspective to womens health. Great gift book.

A must have

Xiolan Zhao explains very well the different phases in women life, it is full of stories, informations and she follows the tradition of the masters with lots of wiseness in her novelty. I treasure this book!

TCM for Women

Xiaolan Zhao has written a clear and helpful book on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) specifically aimed at the different transitions in a woman's life (menstruation, childbirth, menopause). "Ancient Healing for Modern Women" was originally published in Canada as "Reflections of the Moon on Water". Although raised in China, Zhao currently runs a TCM practice in Canada. Although this book does not give specific herbal remedies, there are many lifestyle recommendations that help with everything from PMS, fatigue, hot flashes and breast cancer. Zhao gives suggestions on food, stress relief and exercises such as Tai Chi or Qi Gong as alternatives to western medicines. She does not proclaim that TCM is superior - simply a different way of dealing with issues that may plague many modern women. The key here is balance. Zhao gives good explanations of yin and yang as well as information on Liver Qi, Kidney Qi and Spleen Qi. It took me a bit of time to wrap my head around these concepts, but they do make sense. I have found that by reducing my fondness for ice cold drinks and foods, my PMS symptoms have greatly subsided. This is by no means a comprehensive book on TCM, but it will certainly get you on the path if you are interested in taking a new (but ancient) approach to your female issues. I especially liked the anecdotes and the Buddhist fables sprinkled throughout. It made the book a pleasant read and not just some dry 'heal yourself' book.
