This book is about a transgender woman and her new friend, who has known name until the end. In the first part, he hates gay and transgendered people very much, but when I talks with Lydia, the transgendered, he comes very different. He cares about Lydia more and more as the book goes forward. There are a lot of dreams and things like dreams in this book, and they tell about how life can be hard for both of them, in different ways. The way they are so very different people maybe makes them so into each other. Based on the neurosis of Nabokov's Lolita and Mann's Death in Venice, Anathema is a twenty-first century retelling of affectionate delusion and the dissolution of a man whose affair with a young transsexual turns into an obsessive relationship with his inner monologue and his deranged affinity with a mysterious cicada.
