Boys will be boys

This book is an escape. An Island in Time is a fascinating story of growing up in an unspoiled time in an unspoiled place. It takes the reader back to a time when children were free to roam on their own, spend an entire day in a boat (before the advent of personal flotation devices) and spend months playing Army under the house. It explains the behavior of little boys, lets us look inside their heads and see the depths of their hearts. Through this author's remarkable recall of each situation and emotion, we see his hopes and dreams through the eyes of a child. It makes us long for such innocence. Those who have ever lived on an island will appreciate the small town, family atmosphere and freedom that this book offers. You'll want to move to an island yourself. Preferrably in Puget Sound.

An Imersion in Rural Life in the 1940's

Don Edgers's reminiscence "An Island in Time" offers an imersion in rural life in America in the 1940's - in this case an island in Washington's Puget Sound. Whether you want to learn what it was like or simply remember it, Edgers's book will do the trick. With his impressive memory for detail, he creates a vivid picture of a time and place, an engaging time and place you'll want to visit.

An Island in Time

A delightful read. Don Edgers has a special skill in writing about life from a child's perspective.

Nickel Cokes

...and general stores and fishing through holes in the dock on sunny days(?!) in Puget Sound, as seen/remembered/told by a small Seattle boy transplated every summer to Fox Island near Gig Harbor. It's Norman Rockwell reduced to words, with a Tom Sawyer sort of tone. No espresso stands, cell phones, sex or violence, just an incredibly laid-back insular setting where everything moves 33 rpm just 50 miles offshore a 78 rpm world.-jon hahn, Seattle P-I.
