An Even Break

I read a book by Sid Hite, An Even Break. There was a boy named Frisk Tilden, and everybody felt sorry for him because he was fatherless and he was poor. The younger kids were mad at him because he had gotten a job racking balls and cleaning up the back room of a billiard's parlor. He got lucky because you have to be at least 15 years old to go into the billiard parlor. Although Frisk is teased nonstop by his customers, but he enjoys the benefits of working there. The biggest benefit of him working there is Dan Breedon the best player for miles around in a rural country. By him racking up the table, and cleaning up the back room he tries to earn the older boys respect. When he gets done working at the end of the night he gets a couple lessons a night by Dan. Dan is so good that he is going into an eight ball tournament. Then when the tournament comes up Dan doesn't show up to play, so he asks Frisk if he will take his place in the tournament. Over the time of the summer Frisk accomplishes a lot. He manages to win the eight ball tournament, plays cupid for his mom and Dan, he befriends a bully, and he still manages to still earn enough money to buy a new bike that he has wanted. But I found it an okay book to read.
