WOW Pleasantly surprised

After reading her first book I felt that the author could write, but To Marry a Duke just did not get me to say WOW! But her second in the series is wonderful. It actually avoids many of the romance cliches and develops two intelligent characters that talk to each other. In the end readers will understand why and how they fell in love. Both characters are very human and lovable. I cant't wait until Adele's story.

An Affair Most Wicked

The American heiress Clara arrives in London to marry a respectable husband. Instead she finds Seger, the Marquess of Rawdon who stirs her passions and adventurous spirit but is decidedly not respectable. I loved this book. It has humor and passion and a wonderful love story. And did I mention the hero is hot?

Great story!

AN AFFAIR MOST WICKED caught me from Page 1. The romance is hot and steamy! But it's the developing love story that really caught my attention. For once, the level of attraction between the hero and heroine is deeper than just a strong case of lust. It was fun to follow the romance as their mutual attraction slowly turned to love.Another thing I liked about the story was the American heiress heroine. Her very American reactions to Victorian England society made me laugh. Her nationality brought a freshness to the story that wouldn't have been there if she'd been a British heiress. It's a great read!

American Heiresses in London

In An Affair Most Wicked, Julianne MacLean again touches on a little bit of history that many people may not know about. During the late Victorian period and into the early part of the twentieth century, American heiresses travelled to London to seek out titled husbands to give their new money an "old" feel.Fortunately Clara Wilson, the second sister in Ms. MacLean's series, isn't second rate. Blessed with an adventurous spirit, if Clara were a contemporary heroine, she'd be the girl smoking with the guys in the boys' room--but would make sure she studied for her exams first. She's a bad girl who tries very hard to be good.So who is her perfect match? London's most notorious rake, Seger Wolfe, the Marquess of Rawdon, of course. Seger is a good boy who tries very hard to be bad--and he's bad with a shocking number of London's ladies. Not that any of them are complaining, mind you. This is a man who knows how to please a woman. And make her say thank you, too.Together, Clara and Seger try very hard to abide by the restrictions of polite society. Both of them have pasts they must somehow overcome but in order to do so, they have to trust each other. It's wonderful to see two such non-judgmental characters who learn to love each other for who they are and not what they have done. Clara is a heroine any woman can like, while Seger is a man any woman will love. I can hardly wait for the next sister's story!

Couldn't put it down!

I lost a fair bit of sleep over this book as I simply could not put it down. The author had a long way to go to make me like this book even more than TO MARRY A DUKE, the first in the series, but she succeeded and then some. The characters were vividly drawn and the hero, Seger, was one of the best I've ever come across. You loved him instantly. Clara is strong and well thought out, and the plot flows from one event to the next to keep you rivetted. There is a line on page three that reads something to the effect 'Death was rather permanent in that regard' that still resonates. If you're a lover of historical romance, buy this book. If you aren't, buy it anyway and you soon will be.
