An Aegean Breeze of Peace

The sun is doing everything in its power to burn your skin just enough to lend you a tan in the color of an unripe olive. The dark azure-colored sea begins to call your name. You need a relief from the heat. Just when you start leaving the fine sand under your barely dry body towel to go for a quick dip, a light breeze caresses you. You pause. Then you lay yourself back down again, in slow motion yet anxious to hold the slightly cool airflow to wash yourself in it. Several more gentle movements of the same wind-like dab follow. Feeling secured, you let yourself go. To the crisp sound of the sandy carpet underneath you. To the cradling music of the waves. Inhaling in heavy intakes. Exhaling with a touch of fear lest you may not get any of the mesmerizing moments ever again. Hence, the Aegean Sea for me.This is similar to the aroma that routinely seeped through the walls of our kitchen my mother's skilled hands erected one delicious block at a time. Decades later, when no longer a little girl - or a young woman for that matter, I met Dimitri. As if a breeze from my past had come only to embrace me in comforting emotions and thoughts. And of all the possible geographic regions, from none other than the Aegean Sea - the body of water that has been bridging the physical environment shared for long, for very long by our ancestors. Please know for sure: I don't use the term lightly when with pride I call him my brother from Greece. I have met this beautiful person soon after I lost my biological sibling, an older brother to life. And the rest of our history is before you, in your hands, in the form of a book of poetry. Well, only when our passion for writing to speak on behalf of love is taken into consideration. Our passionate conviction to help contribute to the spreading of the word on peace through its sole ingredient hopefully speaks for itself. Are we as co-authors identical in every imaginable way? Of course not! Even twins can't claim such duplicate existential presence, can they? Yet we do unite in the matters of highest significance to the ultimate degree: in our spiritual, intellectual and literary exchanges but also in awe for our unison despite our disparate realms of our material existences.
