Excellent compendium of essential, diversified Americana

I inherited this book. Had I known about it earlier, I would have bought it. It contains the essence of American aspirations to the fundamentals expressed in many historical documents. Some of the topics include: Liberty, · Words of Great Americans like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. · Words from the White House has a variety of quotes from the inhabitants of that abode. · Words of Great American Writers · Words of Modern Americans. And to quote Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his "The Four Freedoms" in words that ring as true today as when he wrote them: "In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward for a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. "The first is freedom of speech and expression - everywhere in the world." "The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way - everywhere in the world." "The third is freedom from want - which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peaceful life for its inhabitants - everywhere in the world."
