One of the Missing Pieces of the Puzzle Found

Finally we have a taste of what happened to Samantha--Sammy Blade--the damaged warrior who has everyone's soul in her hands. So much of Glass's previous works, Punk and Zen and Red Light, is revealed by American Goth that the reader is compelled to re-read them immediately after finishing it. You can read American Goth as a stand alone, but I recommend that you begin at the beginning, with Punk Like Me, to savor the full saga. I was fully absorbed by the story but a little less so by the repetitive love scenes between Samantha and Fran. I know, I know, I love sex, too, but there would still be plenty to read in that department with a couple of scenes cut. However, the tautness of the plot pulls you in so well that you feel as if you're sitting on Samantha's shoulder as she tracks the evil doers. Is there a sequel to Goth that covers the time between the end of Goth and the beginning of Punk and Zen? What does Samantha do? Are there great adventures there that need to be told? American Goth allows us to know the mystery that is Samantha, and now we are ready for her to take up where Red Light ends--to finally do what she has somehow been unable to do--to find and destroy the evil that is trying to destroy her, her lover and her new family. Is Nina the Avatar and she doesn't yet know it? Or does she know it and we haven't been told that story? Or is it someone else we've met? Or not met? As you can see, there's a fantastic ride here, and I thoroughly recommend you take it. Glass is an excellent writer and weaver of stories, a boundless imagination with a gift.

American Goth: lessons in love, life and doing what is right

American Goth is a book about learning and life. Learning the rules of love and life. Learning how to make choices and knowing right from wrong.Learning that not everything in life is easy or perfect. As American Goth starts the main character Samantha finds herself lost and lonely (not really alone because she has her Uncle Cort and Elizabeth)but still she is devastated. She has lost her way and will. Under the care of Cort and Elizabeth she begins to learn about her path and slowly find her way. Along this road she is reunited with Fran and here love comes into play. Samantha's world is a world filled with ties to another world. A world where she will have to fight for what's right. As the story progresses Samantha learns more and more about her father's heritage and what it means to her. She gains strength and knowledge which she uses to "fight" for what's right, but also to find meaning in her own life. JD Glass writes an incredible story about what we do when we have lost our way and how we sometimes need the help of others to again find our way. Help from family, friends and lovers, even a philosophy(or a system of beliefs which we can use to guide us toward our destiny.)But yet it is ultimately our own responsibility to decide what is right and wrong for our own self. How do we wish to live our life? American Goth has the romance for the romance lovers, but it also has the "What if...?" That encourages us to think outside ourselves and into the world around us. American Goth like all of JD Glass's other books tells the story of life. But not the perfect life. Her books are filled with real life. The life that is full of the good, bad, and the ugly. Yet, her characters always triumph over whatever challenges life throws their way. Her characters are real people with real passion, who live and learn from life's lessons. They make decisions for themselves not allowing others to make those decisions for them.

American Goth

I really enjoy JD's books because they are filled with reality and a touch of fantasy. I feel like I have grown up Sammie. I love this book and the 3 previous to it!
