Amelia Earhart (Women of Acheivement

This book is a descriptive but simple, 105 page biography about the intriguing life of aviator Amelia Earhart. While telling you the events that went on in the amazing life of this American hero, this book provides you with many black and white pictures of the aviator throughout her lifetime, including snapshots of Amelia working as a social worker, war hospital nurse, and an aviator. The life of Amelia Earhart war full of many firsts for women. In 1928 Earhart became the first woman to ever cross the Atlantic Ocean. An instant star, Amelia still wasn't satisfied and challenged herself again in 1932 and became the first woman to ever cross the Atlantic Ocean alone. As if that wasn't enough, Earhart became the first woman to ever cross the Pacific ocean in 1935, and just got more popular. This book gives great details about the problems and glorious moments she faced on these flights as well as the tragic story of her last flight, the flight around the world. Though I have hardly any negative comments about this wonderful book, some of the parts describing her personal family life were a bit boring. Also, I didn't like that the author sometimes told you about things briefly before they really happened in the book. I would like to ask the author why she did this. This book was a pleasure to read and I highly recommend it to anyone. Also, don't forget to check out all the other great books abouth this great American hero who was truly a revoulutionary woman.

Amelia Earhart

In this book I learned that Amelia Earhart was one of the greatest female pilots ever. Amelia was born in Atchinson,Kansas on July,24 1897.She had a hard childhood, with a drunk for a dad. She was beaten several times, but that did not stop her career. In 1920 she flew for the first time for a short ten minute flight. Although she was not flying the plane, she knew right then that she was ment to be a pilot. Just two years later Amelia got her pilots license and began breaking records. In 1937, Amelia started making goals for herself. The goals were to be the first women to fly around the world. She first attempted this on July,1. A few hours after takeoff, she noticed that her windshield was starting to ice up. She did not think that anything was going to happen, but minutes later the gas line froze up and it was so foggy that she could not see anything. So, she said " I am not giving up now" so she went to sleep and the next morning to her suprise she was still alive and was flying over Greenland. She had made it despite all of the bad weather. She suddendly became famous. She was known all over the world in just a few months. Even though on that flight she had been scared, that was not enough to stop her from continuing on flying. She continued flying, and breaking records for several years. But on July,3 1937 She had a flight that could ruin her career. Well I hate to say it but, that is what happend. While she was flying the radio controls shut down. Still today knowone knows what happen, her plane had vanished. People are constantly looking for the plane to this very day.
