I bought these books about 5 years ago for my daughter and decided to read them myself. I found them very enjoyable and realistic. Maybe being lost on a deserted island isnt the most likely situation, but the emotions, and dynamics are very appropriate. The writer is obviously gifted, and very much able to reach a wide level of audiences. Our set of books has been passed around to so many of my daughters friends that they are about worn out, and those girls are in their late teens now. I find these books much more appropriate and realistic than Flight 29 DOwn. They have much better morals too!
Alone is right

This book is the sequel to Alone!, a story of 6 girls who are sent on a week-long cruise that leaves them stranded on an uncharted island with their slightly older Caribbean guide. When this story picks up the girls have been on the island for about 4 months and have pretty much settled in to island though they spend almost all of their time building a boat to carry them away from it. When yet another storm takes yet another boat from them the story starts really losing its momentum and becomes a little far-fetched. the impassible lagoon is suddenly able to have a raft leave and then a rescue ship come in unharmed - it conflicts with everything that had been built up before it.Aber apparently was not able to fit all of her story of the Lost Girls into one book, but did not have enough material for a true series. The editors should have had her combine the two. The real reason for reading this book after Adrift is simply for some closure. Why 4 stars?:The characters have become too similar and boring. The events are more interesting, but become a little fantastic. If you haven't read the prequel, I wouldn't bother with this one. Still, it is entertaining and not poorly written. Anything that gets a child to read is worth having on your shelves.

I found this book at a store in the mall when I was younger, and I was enchanted by it from beginning to end.The auther writes about these girls in such a way that you feel as if you've actually known them all along. Each one has her own fears and insecurities that she must, and does, overcome.I have taken this story with me even into adulthood.
a great sequel

This book was great! I got it when I was in 6th grade and still love it. I really want the book before "Alone" so I can understand why they are stuck on the island in the first place. Aber does a great job of showing conflict within the daily lives of Sarah, Huzzy, Annie, Allison, Libby, and Shawn. I really liked the whole atmosphere of the book. I hope that Aber intends to write another sequel to this series.
