An Eliza Pirex mystery in which a woman hires Eliza to find a long-lost friend who disappeared six years ago, and discovers that her disappearance is steeped in mystery and danger.
The first hundred or so pages of this book (which appears to be the only one written by this author) were a little too wordy and the plot a bit confusing. But after that the pace picked up and the plotting became more coherent. This is a PI tale in the Sandra Scoppettone mould. The main protagonist, the lesbian PI Eliza Pirex, is very vividly drawn as are most of the secondary characters. This book shows considerable promise and it is a loss to the genre that it apparently did not develop into a series.
