Nothing but drama between the pages!

All That Drama will have you shed a few tears, laugh out loud, and cause you to get pissed between the pages. My favorite character was Maria, an example of what a true friend represents through thick and thin- where the bonding of sistahood lies within the heart. Now, Sammie on the other hand was the victim of abuse by her husband Jessie, molded by her mother, and accepted abuse as a way of life. Jessie used Sammie for his own personal gain by having Sammie work as a stripper (giving you an insight of greed lured by sex, drugs, and money). When Sammie met Maria, the bond of sistahood was created; one would hope a way out for Sammie abusive lifestyle... which happened after Jessie got his Karma, addicted to crack, selling his body, beaten, and sentence to prison. Sammie, now the abuser of her friendship with Maria and her children by allowing her selfish needs to come first. Each women on their own journey of finding love in all the wrong places, one become fatal... who dies??? Dang you must read and be surprised just like I was but don't hate, a sequel is expected. Great book lots of drama and a lesson for all sistas to hold dear to heart... love self first and follow you gut instinct. I give All That Drama a 5 star rating (highest on a scale of 1-5)

Very thought provoking novel!

I was misled by the title and assumed this was just another "ghetto drama" novel. Boy, was I wrong, this book deals with domestic abuse. I love how she takes the reader into these two women's lives which provides answers as to why they would tolerate and not tolerate abuse on any level. I can't say enough about how this issue needs to be brought to the attention as it is often a dirty little secret. Thanks Ms Brooks Mckinny!! A survivor

sammie, is that you?

i had to say this under my breath as i spoke to a co-worker recently! this character is so insecure and soo... recognizable in some women that i come in contact with everyday, that i felt like i was reading someone's diary. it was a flashback to earlier years when being single and in the dating scene full-time was so heartbreaking and exhilirating and, yes! so full of drama! this was a fun read that ended too soon. brooks mckinney serves up serious drama in voices that are almost too realistic. Dazzling Debut

Tina Brooks McKinney's debut novel, opened with a bang. Literally. As Marie, the main character in the novel lies outside her house bleeding and feeling her life slipping away, she's filled with regret over things she could have or should have done differently. Bits of humor are interspersed in her inner dialogue during this very tragic moment. Marie and Sammie, an unlikely pair, have both recently arrived in Atlanta and form a close friendship despite their glaring differences. It is Marie's nurturing spirit that is the glue in this relationship. Sammie has been abused and neglected since childhood. Her mother verbally abused her and now her husband has forced her into a life of prostitution. Long after Sammie is free of her husband's emotional incarceration, she still suffers from low self-esteem. When she allows Curtis, her most recent bed partner, to continually disrespect her, Marie finds it more than she can bear. Marie, a proud woman and a champion of the downtrodden, is quick to jump to Sammie's defense. The problem is...Sammie doesn't seem to want to be saved. Tina Brooks McKinney wrote a fast-paced book that deals with family dysfunction and friendship. The author speaks in a refreshing new voice that is clever as well as earthy. I enjoyed every page of ALL THAT DRAMA and I know you will too. Grab this one as soon as possible.

Talk about drama....

It's been a while since I've actually had a problem putting a book down. Tina McKinney's first novel held me captive in it's drama until I read the last line! I don't like to give away the plot and/or ending so you'll have to get your own copy. Let me say though, that the ending will get you. You can tell the difference between this and other books in the same genre. The story AND the ending were well put together and NOT rushed just to get it (the writing) over with. I can truly say that I can NOT wait until Ms. McKinney's next novel is published. I will be one of the first in line to buy my next dose of DRAMA!
