Worth Reading Again

Her husband, convicted of embezzlement! Julie had loved Luke deeply and passionately, but their happiness ended when he was caught lying, cheating and stealing. For two years while in prison, he had refused to see her. Julie's life was intolerable and she wanted to end their mock marriage. Suddenly Luke was adamant. "You carry my name and that makes you mine." he said. And his power to hold her was greater than hers to escape. Comment: There was so much tension and underlying passion in this book. She was ready to take off for parts unknown with their baby when she heard he was getting out of prison, but waited just a bit too long. She feels betrayed; he's frustrated and hurt that she just went along with the rest of the town, believing him guilty. Of course he is innocent, but his actions to protect her got him in trouble and kept him there. What a shock when she learns the truth.
