I love this book

This is the first book that my daughter has ever read and showed that she really enjoyed it. She couldn't put the book down. She read it out loud to me and I enjoyed listening to her read the book as she talked as if she was the characters. I could really tell that she was seeing the characters, which really has never happened before. I would really recommend this book. My daughters 8 and I have struggled with getting her to read. She wants me to get the rest of the books and can't wait to get started with the next book.

Love this series!

I love the Amy Hodgepodge books! I'm so thankful for this modern series where being multiracial is the norm. :-) And the storyline is truly universal. Amy is going through the usual angst of starting a new school, trying to fit in and make new friends (took me right back to my own grade-school years like it was yesterday). I love the way the story is written in the first person ~ Kim & Kevin did a great job of capturing the spirit of a fourth-grader, and it really draws kids in. Even my four-year old boy who has sworn off all things "girlish" wanted to hear more of the story (!). The A.H. web site is fun too. :-)

Definitely recommend!

I loved this book! Everything from the artwork to how the authors were really able to get inside of a child's heart and deal with all the issues that they have to deal with when it comes to being "different." Amy is such a sweet character, my six year old adores her and my 8 year old neighbor next door does too. They really enjoy reading all about her and her friends! Especially Rusty, although the book is skewed toward girls, I know boys would enjoy it as well.

Groundbreaking!

I can't say enough how much I love this series! Finally multiracial girls have a heroine in Amy Hodgepodge. However, Amy is a great role model for all kids. Amy's story is really about honoring your individuality in a world that oftens pressures kids to conform. I have ordered the series for my three-year-old daughter because I know she will love them as much as I do. Definitely well written, witty, and wise. A great discovery.

I'm collecting them all!

My six and a half year old daughter has just finished first grade, is a voracious reader and has started reading chapter books on her own. We just found this one and she loves it! The other night she took it to bed with her and a flashlight because she just couldn't put it down. How delightful that these books have come along right on time for her and her multiracial/multicultural friends like her. I can tell she is very intrigued to read about characters with family backgrounds that she and her friends can personally relate to. She has announced that she wants to collect all the Amy Hodgepodge books and will be adding them to her bookshelf right next to her Junie B. Jones and Magic Tree House collections.
