In 1865, amidst the furor of Lincoln's death and the atrocities discovered at Andersonville, a diary of a Union soldier, Eugene Forbes was published, but it contained just part of his words. Two other diaries existed and have until now remained unpublished with his adopted family. All for the Flag contains the other two existing diaries from his war years, 1862-1865. It is his story and the story of the fourth New Jersey and its soldiers.
