An All-Action Classic of an All-American Hero

In this graphic adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain (1876), Tom gets into more trouble than any boy this side of the Mississippi River - except maybe his best friend Huckleberry Finn. What better way to introduce classic characters like Tom and Huck to young readers than through the contemporary style of graphic novels? This popular comic book format is designed to reach a wider audience so that more can enjoy classic literature. Poor Aunt Polly can't keep track of Tom. He'd do anything to get out of doing his chores and going to school - like going pole fishing, swimming, or hunting for buried treasure. What is unique about the graphic novel format is that readers get to see the story come to life frame by frame. This version features many of the adventures from the original book. Tom tricks his friends into whitewashing his fence (Aunt Polly's punishment to Tom for skipping school). Tom also gets threatened by an angry Injun Joe and his gang and finds himself trapped in the underground cave with Becky Thatcher. At the end of the book is a fascinating look at the life and adventures of the author Samuel Clemens (alias Mark Twain). With original sketches from the cartoonist mixed throughout, this brief biography shares insight on the real people and events that inspired Twain's stories. Recommended reading for comic book fans and fans of classic literature alike.

Great intro to a classic

My son is 8 years old and he just finished this book. He loved it and is now passing it around his third grade class, because other children want to read it to. I think it is a great intro to a classic book.

Sechrist's Sawyer

I love this classic comic! Having been one of the first completed comic works by Sechrist, I love his take on Tom Sawyer. This comic has been enjoyed by multiple generations, as I'm sure it will continue to do so. It's too bad there isn't a Tom Sawyer series!
