I don't know how many of you... if any of you... remember this book when you were a kid. Back in the day, I would check this out from the school library literally every time I went there. It's a book geared towards a really young crowd, yet a lot of the content is somewhat disturbing. Many of the stories are rather terrifying and deal with murder and gruesome death. Lots of stories about haunted houses and animals that go nuts... If your kid has an imagination then this book will be terrifying for them! (or great and inspiring, depending on your viewpoint) There's also a section that goes into great detail on how to photograph and investigate ghosts... very strange collection of readings for a child. But it was fascinating to me as a youngster, and I couldn't resist the urge to recapture a piece of my past. It's exactly the same as I remember it, and even today can send a few shivers down my spine. My girlfriend and I sat down together under the covers in an empty house and enjoyed getting a few frights from the stories and pictures... and our heightened senses for the rest of the night managed to keep us awake. I would recommend this book if it weren't so expensive... but if you remember reading it as a child and getting enjoyment out of it, I would say get it... it was worth every penny.
Informania, a Sensational Series

Recently I read Informania Vampires by Martin Jenkins which was a masterpiece of its genre, so when I saw this Informania Ghosts, I had to check it out as well. To be honest it isn't as good as the Vampire book. It is written by a different author after all but it is still one of the best books on simple introductions to a horror topic I have come across. The book has five sections. The first is a classic ghost story titled The Empty House by Algernon Blackwood which is a condensed version of the original tale. The second section is old lady ghost hunter Dee Bunker's Ghost Hunter Scrapbook, in which she tells the tales of various investigations she has been on. The National Museum of Phoney Ghosts is an excellent little package that makes up the third chapter. A ghost named Sir Ghastlie Mones exposes the tricksters and con artists who have claimed to photograph or talk to ghosts and provides evidence of their trickery. A ghost film guide is the fourth chapter reviewing different family movies containing ghosts from the silent to present era. What made the Informania Vampire book better than this was that it didn't just include movies rated for children. The final ready reference section gives a timeline of different sightings, ways to avoid ghosts, and internet sites to find out more information. The Informania series are a great collection of easy to read but still extremely informative books written in an entertaining way that they will appeal to children as well as adults along with those with different reading levels.

This picture book is truly a one of a kind book. It is filled with illustrations and informational tidbits, from : What is a ghost,Ghosts of long ago,Haunted places ,unlikely ghosts, ghost hunting..to a dictionary of ghostlore. I do not think you will find another How to hunt them instruction book anywhere. From a ghost bear to a ghost bird... strange but true. Great Halloween treat or a take it camping book.
