The poetry in Grasshopper Pie is wonderful for youngsters just learning how to read. The vivid illustrations drawn by Adrian Sinnott make the whole learning-to-read experience a much more enjoyable and fun one. It was so clever to have a grasshopper hidden on every page!! I am first grade teacher in Boston, and the kids in my class loved reading the book and looking at the pictures. Sinnott really inspired them to get into art and draw on their own.
Shel Silverstein has a Successor

This book is GREAT; silly and refreshing with delighful illustrations. Steinberg is the next best things to Shel Silverstein, may his sweet soul rest in peace. Buy it for yourself and, of course, all your kids. My 15 year old actually brought it to school to share with his classmates.
Simply delightful!

My whole family adored this book. My three year old wants me to read it to her every night before she goes to bed! I caught my 12 year old (who is a big Shel Silverstein fan) reading it and laughing out loud. We're so glad that Mr. Steinberg has come along. He can easily fill the shoes of the late Shel Silverstein & Dr. Seuss. Looking forward to more work from this talented poet. Bravo!

Delightful poetry for 4 to 8 year olds! My grandchildren loved the poems and the characters. An inexpensive gift item that children will enjoy for a long time.
David Steinberg - The New Dr. Seuss?
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 20 years ago
We have just received this delightful new book and our children can't get enough of it! We read through all the poems yesterday and our kids kept saying, "Again!" and insisted on hearing them again this morning. They giggled through Grasshopper Pie and had fun imitating Billy Ray Brown and Louise's Sneezes. I enjoy my role as the resident Tickle Monster. This reminds me of the thrill I experienced as a child when I discovered Dr. Seuss. All in all-this book is great for young children (and their parents) and I look forward to more books from this new Dr. Seuss.
