Conveys the Wonder of the Human Body

Look at "Alive's" cover. You see the muscles of a face, a skull, a brain, an eye, an eye socket, and teeth. Any anatomy book shows you these elements of the body, but how many show you these features simultaneously with depth, dimension and texture? Press the Try Me button on the cover and the brain's neurons fire like Christmas lights. Fabulous stuff and it's just the cover, just the beginning of a fascinating exploration to the systems of the human body. In the days before computers, and there were such days, a book like this would have been a state of the art presentation of the inner workings of the human body. Even in this modern era of computers and ubiquitous special effects, it's still a thrill to see three dimensional organs rise from the page with amazing detail and realism. The lights and sounds are powered by a replaceable battery, one that lasts a very long time and may outlast the book. My only complaint is the relentless beating of the heart that can't be turned off unless one parly closes that particular page. DK books never disappoint. Here's a wonderful book for the budding doctor or scientist.

great book

This book is so different and fun. My seven year old cannot put it down. Way to make learning so fun. I like reading it too (mom). I would buy this for any child over the age of 6 or adult.

Excellent combination of science and art

This is an excellent example of what a really good science writer who is artistically gifted can do. The book is thoughtfully designed, well researched and interesting to both children and adults. This is a book that both parents and children will enjoy. I think the most valuable part of the book was the fact that the young reader was treated with intelligence and respect.
