Always get your man

Alaskan Renegade (Harlequin Historical Series) Alaskan Renegade Kate Bridges Harlequin Historical November 2009 The Alaskan frontier is a fascinating and rugged setting which Kate Bridges brings to life. Her well chosen words generate vivid pictures and intense feelings. The reader can easily slip within the pages and imagine they are taking part in the journey that Victoria and Brant experience in Alaskan Renegade. Brant MacQuaid is a bounty hunter on a mission. He has found the perfect cover to allow him to get close to his quarry. He will pose as a bodyguard. Only glitch in the plan is the nurse he is to protect, Miss Victoria Windhaven. He knows she has no good opinion of him, with some cause, if he is honest with himself. The decisions he has made in the past betrayed Victoria and her family but hopefully time has lessened the anger. The next couple of days probably wouldn't be the most comfortable cramped in a stagecoach with her glaring at him if it has not especially if she finds out he hasn't told her the complete truth of why he took on the job of guarding her little medical group. Although it is important that Victoria begin her journey up Glitter Mountain, she has second and third thoughts about the replacement bodyguard that the sheriff hired. Brant obviously has not changed since she last saw him years ago when he became a bounty hunter. She has heard since then that he guided some people into the Yukon; maybe he even tried his hand at staking a claim, maybe he has changed. It soon becomes obvious though that he has not given up his violent ways. The man is supposed to be convincing her and Cooper, the young medical student, that he's the right bodyguard for them when he pulls his guns out, chases down a couple of men and gets in a fist fight. Why does the man think violence is the answer? However, she has little choice but to accept him or their medical care will be delayed and she so hopes to be able to get back before the snow starts to fall. When they finally climb into the stagecoach, Brant discovers he was right. It will be an uncomfortable trip but not for quite the same reason as he feared. Little Victoria is all grown up now and even with a scowl on her face, she's beautiful. And, there is something about her that sparks a response in him; makes him think about a future he never thought he would want. As for Victoria, she finds the ride just as uncomfortable. Seeing Brant again after all these years, has her emotions in an uproar. She'll keep her distance as much as she can and ignore him. If only it was easy to ignore the sparks he ignites within her. When danger strikes and they are forced closer than ever, their true feelings emerge and their journey really begins. Victoria and Brant have hurdles to overcome if true happiness can be found. Kate Bridges weaves their emotions slowly together, building a passionate foundation but will that be enough? Lies, danger, and different views of how life should be lived, thr

great Alaskan Territory late nineteenth century police procedural romance

In 1899 Victoria Windhaven provides nursing services to injured miners and others in the Skagway vicinity of the District of Alaska. Her work requires her trekking into some dangerous wilderness so a bodyguard is assigned to escort her. Her current protector is Brant MacQuaid who jilted Victoria's sister at the altar in St. Louis. He has been hired as her bodyguard and that of her associate medical student Cooper Sullivan as they tend to injured miners on Glitter Mountain. Victoria remains outraged with him and wishes someone else would escort her. He can feel the anger she emits at him, but refuses to allow anyone else replace him even the rival Philadelphian medical student as he needs her as his cover to capture a nasty felon besides being in love with her although keeping her safe comes first before the criminal and his desire. This is another great Kate Bridges Alaskan Territory late nineteenth century police procedural romance. Fans will feel they are on Glitter Mountain assisting Kate and Cooper with the injured and observing the Mountie Brant as he gets his man (and more important his woman). Cooper is a strong likable support character who offers Victoria every quality trait she wants in a husband while Brant provides everything she detests in a spouse. Their spirited rivalry make for a fun historical. Harriet Klausner
