In Togo, colonial rule meant that agriculture was essentially geared towards the production of export crops. At independence, agricultural policies sought to reorientate the sector so that it could ensure the country's food self-sufficiency through agricultural modernisation, in this case the launch of the Green Revolution in 1977 for a period of 5 years. However, despite all the initiatives taken here and there, it has to be said that the country has not been able to achieve its objective of food self-sufficiency.
