Richard Jefferies was a 19th century British writer who mostly wrote naturalist works but also helped usher in the genre of science fiction. This is one of his most famous science fiction works.

After London, can be seen as an early example of "post-apocalyptic fiction": after some sudden and unspecified catastrophe has depopulated England, the countryside reverts to nature, and the few survivors to a quasi-medieval way of life.

The World as mankind knew it has come to a end. Nature and civilization are recovering from disaster. The few survivors of man, live in a quasi-medieval society. One of the earliest and best post-apocalypse novels ever written!!
