Excellent book on how to pick up the pieces and learning to live again after the loss of a loved one

I heard Ted Menten speak at one of our National Compassionate Friend's conferences about the day he became both a FATHER, AND A WIDOWER in the same day as his wife died in childbirth. He writes with compassion and first hand knowledge and I have purchased several copies of his books to gift to others and help them in their grief journey. He is a truly compassionate and experienced speaker and writer. I would also recommend books for the loss of a child by Marilyn Heavilin, When Your Dreams Die & Roses in December, Are You Weeping With Me God by Martha Bittle Clark (was one of the 1st books I read after my son died), My Son, My Son by Iris Bolton & Swallowed by a Snake (healing for Masculine grief or Father's Grief) by Tom Golden, another excellent author.
Ted Menten has gotten it right.

This tiny book evokes tears, smiles and nods of understanding as Ted Menten's vignettes hold our hands through the process of grief. As a counselor myself, it is evident that this author has spent many hours in the company of grief. The beauty of his book is that it embraces and validates what only grievers know: you don't get over things and move on, but you move on holding your loved one forever in your heart.

I think this is a marvelous little book. Ted Menten puts everything in perspective pertaining to grief. I cherish this little book.
"Fluff" isn't necessarly bad...and this book is quite good.

One reviewer said this book was little more than "fluff". I believe that lots of people look too much to external sources for the "magic bullet" to make them quit grieving. In my grief (widowed) I have found that this book was one that really got it right, and one of the biggest things to give me support was just being able to read someone who understood what I was going through.Menten, while I don't think he was a widower like me, somehow does a fantastic job in getting it right.I would highly suggest this book and will give it to other widows/widowers in the future.
The best book I've read on dealing with grief

Ted Menten comes closer than anyone in relating to how a grieving person feels. He has deep insight into our thoughts as we grieve and makes us very aware that that we are normal and will get through this. I highly recommend it for anyone that has lost a spouse or child.
I found much comfort in reading this book.

I have always found much comfort in reading. After my brother's sudden death,I searched our library for a book on a loved one's death and how to cope. I found this book and I experienced such comfort in it, that I shared it with other family members. They also found comfort in it. It is a wonderful book. I would recommend it to anyone who may be grieving over a loved one.
