An excellent tool to prompt discussions with children!

I purchased this book to help my children with the death of their father, my husband. By reading it with them it helped me raise questions and discuss possible situations. The book depicted other childrens experiences in their own words which enabled my children to be able to relate to situations easier. Although some sections of the book related to the early stages of grief and we are 4 years into this hard journey I believe that this book was still beneficial for helping my childrens understand their feelings.

An Excellent Activity Book for Grieving Children

I highly recommend this book! I work extensively with grieving children and their families and have found this activity book to be extremely helpful. Each activity offers an opportunity to explain the complexities of grief and loss in terms that a child can understand and absorb, while at the same time giving the child an opportunity to tell his or her story. Each page offers a quote from one grieving child to another. The color and texture of this book are rich; even the pages are thick and durable. This book is a safe place for grieving children to work through their grief. It is also an invaluable resource for parents who want to help their children, but are at a loss as to where to start. I also highly recommended this book to professionals who work with grieving children.

Excellent resource for grieving children

Leave it to the Dougy Center to come up with such a great book for children experiencing grief. I work with children when their mom or dad is dying or has just died. I found this book to be an excellent description of what kids 'might' feel (because no one feels all the same feelings) and is written very appropriately for children of any age. For younger kids it will be a good tandem exercise with another adult. For anyone looking for a way to help a family where there has been a parent/sibling/grandparent death, I would highly recommend this book!
