Good basic info.

As a new parrot owner and novice African Grey mom, I was looking for a book to give me an overview. This book does the trick. It goes over basic African Grey characteristics, grooming, housing, etc. If you're new to Greys, I strongly recommend this as a beginner book.

A must read book for all grey owners

Maggie Wright's book is an absolute must read for all African Grey owners, from novice through intermediates. The information is up-to-date and is very informative for all kinds of situations and is excellent to have on hand for referencing as situations occur. I also found some of the recipe ideas to be very helpful which are great guidelines to feed your grey the best possible diets. Think of a grey as a bird that needs stimulation, love, and variety (as the book details) and you will have an awesome grey on your hands. If you are contemplating a grey, have a new grey in your house, or want to improve the relationship with your long-term grey, this book is for you. We are very pleased with how it has helped us with our 16 week old African grey, Jocosa. We've purchased what matters most for a happy, healthy bird when we got our grey at 12 weeks. It has been the best month of our lives and this book helped guide us toward that happiness. Many kudos.Todd and Sandra MooreStaten Island, New York

THE BEST COMPENDIUM OF PARROT INFO OUT THERE

I have worked with parrots for 16 years, starting as a pet lover and ending up as a professional interspecies communication researcher. This book is the BEST book there is in terms of the range and depth of useful information in it. I have looked at or read all of the books on parrots out there. Most of the books about them that petstores sell are ridiculous descriptive essays without the in-depth information you need to know to deal with real life situations. This book is one of the few to give a comprehensive range of information not only about parrot care, but also about ongoing interactions, how to train your parrot to do all sorts of things, instinctual parrot body language, and even how to help a parrot preen its feathers...I wish I had had this book when I first got a bird--it would have saved me a lot of time, and even spared me from a painful bite or two as I learned some of what she teaches the hard way. I ended up having to learn a lot of this stuff on my own over many years of painstaking observation, whereas the writer is able to summarize things in a clear and simple to understand way. Maggie is obviously a very dedicated lover of African Gray parrots, and has not only done her own in depth observations but has also done a lot of homework and researched everything a pet owner would need to know. This book not only gives tips on how to deal with the day-to-day business of keeping a parrot well and happy, it also gives more information to help you take your relationship with your parrot beyond what the typical pet-owner can imagine. There are great tips here for helping to develop a more mutual engagement, communication, and understanding with these highly intelligent animals. I think it should be required reading for anyone interested in living with a parrot, and if I could recommend just one book this would be it.

I guarantee you will learn from this book...

This book is a "must have" for any person living with a grey parrot! I am totally impressed with the value of its contents. Ms. Wright offers the person living with a grey parrot the most comprehensive, usable advise I have ever seen in a manual about African greys to date--and believe me, I've read them all. This book gets inside the mind of the African grey parrot like never before. Not only are you afforded the expertise of the author's experience with greys, which is extensive, but her excellent choice of resources are the most trusted people in the avian world today. Her attention to detail is remarkable. She has thought of possibly every case scenario to help a person get inside the head of these complicated, intelligent parrots-not without doing so in an easy to read, enjoyable writing style. If you have a new baby grey or, better yet, planning to get one in the near future, do yourself and your little one a favor and read this book. If you are a seasoned African grey's person, please don't let this one pass you by. You will find new advice and thought processes to help you improve your relationship with your African grey parrot. I know I did! It just goes to show that we should never stop learning when we live with parrots. To tell you that you will be getting your money's worth is an understatement.
