The Adventures in Japanese, Volume 1, Hiragana & Katakana workbook offers a complete practice guide for mastering hirag This description may be from another edition of this product.
We used this textbook series in our high school Japanese class. They were an excellent resource in our classroom. The vocabulary and grammar lessons were easy to follow, and the illustrations were pretty funny. It's been a few years, and now my Japanese skills have been wearing away, but if you continue this series and study hard, you will be very good at Japanese. And I would agree with the reviewers who said that you can use this to teach yourself Japanese...provided that you are motivated to learn the language and have a friend you can talk to and write to for practice.

My daughter used this for her high school Japanese class. We purchased it so she can keep up with her Japanese, and I'm now learning as well. It looks like a great textbook and I'll be using it soon.
The ABSOLUTE best book for beginners

As a college student majoring in Japanese Language and Literature and going to continue on to a master's degree, I have come across many books claiming to teach a person the Japanese language. This book series, however, does the best to provide grammatical explanation and basic grammar. If you are trying to learn Japanese on your own, I would recommend this book to start with. Not only will it be useful in terms of making your way through Japan, but it is interesting and does more than teach the language. It also provides culture notes which are important since language is more than grammatical structure and words, its context.

This is an excellent textbook for those beginning to learn Japanese. Everything is very clear and easy to understand. This volume teaches you both Hiragana and Katakana as well as a few basic Kanji. I recommend this textbook to anyone interested in learning Japanese.
Great Reference!

As a new Japanese student, I found this book to be extremely helpful. Not only are the hiragana and katakana alphabets included and explained, but there is also a lot of cultural information that I found very interesting. This book is very easy to understand and is even good for some basic teach-yourself Japanese, which is what I'm doing. In the first half of the book, all the words are spelled out in Romanji, so it makes it so much easier for beginners to learn how to read and pronounce Japanese words. You will not be dissapointed!
