Devon Monroe has one problem -- he blames himself for the death of Tommy. Devon was twelve at the time. His best friend was the youngest at ten, Roberto Arroya with the blond Larkin and Tommy completing the Brotherhood. THE BLACKTHORN BROTHERHOOD. Devon is now a foreign correspondent and has barely lived through some harrowing experiences. He is tired. He is met at the airport by Jessica Newcomb who works for his father, Crandall Monroe. His impression is that she is a snob. He wonders if he will be able to stand being home with his ailing father, as neither man has learned how to share their feelings about each other. Jessica, who is fighting her own problems, wants to bring about a reconciliation between the two men. Her impression is that he doesn't care for anyone. She doesn't know that Blackthorn Hall and The Box still haunt Dev. Slowly they spend time with each other and reveal their scars and emotional traumas and Devon gets a better insight into his father's fears. Then the story loses it as it continues into the bed scenes and her love affairs. Love affairs? sounds more like sex to me. She determins not to ask Dev to give up his career even though it frightens her. He becomes afraid of losing her and acts overly-protective to the point of smothering her. A good read but not overly exciting - emotional - good characters - judge for yourself. Very readable for the beginning of a trilogy - next is The Avenger - Roberto's story and how he dealt with Blackthorn's tragedy.
