Excellent if you want to get into the details of what a kernel might do!

I checked this out from my university library because I couldn't find a more current book on assembly that applied to kernel development, wary because it was published in 1988, but I am pleasantly surprised. This is an excellent book for this purpose, and I strongly recommend it over Intel's white papers if you are getting started in operating system development.
