A visual, learn-by-doing approach to help readers quickly modify, print and share their digital photos using Photoshop Elements 3. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book shows you all the great things you can do with PhotoShop Elements 3. (Yes, the software is old, but then again so is my computer and it won't run newer versions of Elements.) I like the way everything is illustrated and explained in detail.
Exactly what I needed

I have been trying to learn Photoshop 3 for 3 months. I took an online course and that was helpful, but so detailed you could not rememeber the information presented. This book presents the information in a very clear and concise manner. Plenty of visuals make it much easier. It does not attempt to cover every feature, but it does cover all the important ones. It is a great desk companion. I pick it up whenever I can't remember how to use a certain feature. I recommend this book to anyone who needs a quick reference to Photoshop features

User Level: Beginner Cost of Book: $19.99 ISBN Number: 0-7897-3330-7 Published by Que Publishing www.quepublishing.com 1-800-571-5840 This book is well written in a beginning level format. The title is very appropriate...'easy'. There are lots of graphics and pictures and only as much text describing a process or procedure as you need...enough, but not too much. I guess since the book is less than an inch thick one could assume the author gets right to the point. Although I was doing this review for an Apple User's Group, and assumed it was written for MacIntosh users, it is not. Examples shown are in PC format. I do not know if the book is available for Mac users. Fortunately I have both a PC and a Mac. I read the entire book without being in front of the computer. As an owner (and a periodic user) of Photoshop, and an owner (never having used) Photoshop Elements, I was thrilled with all the possibilities I saw with Elements 3. In fact, prior to reading this book I was wondering why I had let others convince me I needed to purchase it along with the Adobe Photoshop Program. I felt the twelve sections of the book covered material and types of applications people would most commonly use; some of the latter chapters related to publishing and output files which were interesting to read, but not applicable to this reader (at least at this point in time). Each page has a brief description of what concept you'll learn, plus a 'hint' and 'tip' related to that concept. For the most part these were helpful and useful. Two negative things I can say about the book. First it seemed that the book wasn't proofread very well. I found numerous inconsistencies between graphic examples and written descriptions. I find this especially irritating during any initial learning process. Trying to learn from an incorrect example is tough. The second problem considering we are reviewing Mac books and hardware is that the learning CD was a PC format. Overall, the book is very good. I am anxious to put into action the "cool" things I've learned. This book comes with a CD formatted for a PC. The CD provides samples photos and artwork used in the book, templates for projects, and additional chapters on creating CD's and DVD's, and digital home movies.
