Great overview of Illustrator features

This book gives an introduction to almost all features of illustrator and how to use it. Using this book in conjunction with extensive personal practice and experimentation with the program will take you a long way toward mastering the software.

Great for Illustrator Newbees

Yes, as stated in other reviews, this is a book for those new to Illustrator. Simple, to the point, and clearly written, this book takes the dread and frustration out of using a program that has such an extremely steep learning curve. There is a bit of redundancy when using this book cover-to-cover, but the chapters can also be used as stand-alone reference material in such fashion.

worth every penny, and then some

I'm usually under intense deadline pressure, and the learning curve for a particular technique can sometimes cost me valuable time. I just don't have time to really play with Illustrator, and thus a lot of the cutting edge features - particularly those that have emerged and evolved over the past two or three revisions - have unfortunately eluded me at times. While there are other books that touch on these features, 3D Effects in particular, there is no book anywhere close to Illustrator Gone Wild. The WOW book is a beautifully composed book. But it isn't an intense exploration of cutting edge design techniques like Gone Wild is. This one has been very helpful to me, allowing me to pick up techniques more or less verbatim, or riff in a related direction. Nice going, Dave and Mark.

A must-have book for your library

Any serious Illustrator artist should pick up this book. It's similar to "Wow," but more project oriented, a lot more fun, and yes....a bit wild. David Karlins and Bruce Hopkins have done a good job at providing a book that's not only a referense, but a muse. It will serve to get your juices flowing, and the techniques may make you some money.

Takes Illustrator to the next level

This is the freshest and most useful Illustrator book I've seen in a long time. First of all, it's a joy just to look at, packed with inspirational illustrator artwork that not only promise great lessons, but which plant creative ideas for your own illustrator work. Then there are the techniques themselves -- awesome and sophisticated results that are somehow made easy with the distilled step-by-step. Finally, there's the writing, which is irreverent and fun throughout. Nice work, guys!
