Good Working Basis for Your Practice

Kirk White is the founder of Cherry Hill Seminary. This paperback is listed as an "Advanced Practitioner" book of Kirks material, and I would think this would be part of his required reading for his advanced students. First of all, let me state that I did not find much in this book that was not basic Wiccan Teachings in any Tradition. The book covers Wicca: ritual, divination, Wheel of the Year, healing and spellworking, Deity and magical life. It also covers some forms of the Degree System. The book starts with the basics, in review it seems. However, there is more here than just review material, it sets up basic practices. As a matter of fact, the entire book is very well laid out basic practices. Much more detail than many other beginner books, so it does merit closer inspection than many of the other basic handbooks on the market. I cannot call this advanced. Being Advanced Wicca, in my opinion, involves actual experiential practices and validation of experience. No book can give you this. And while the book discusses this in theory, it cannot provide these key elements of an advanced practice. But what I can say is the material is not the usual "fluff stuff" you find in many other handbooks, it is not watered down or dropped to a childish level. Rather, this is a very good working handbook for the Seeker who has decided that Wicca is their path and they truly want to explore it. There are meditations, there are lessons, and there are discussions on key elements. I liked his differentiation between initiation and dedication and the further discussions. I liked his discussions on Deity and theological models. There is much here to like. Grown up discussion for a change. I like that. Mr. White also has going in his favor an easy to read style of writing that is very clear and enjoyable. He does not speak down to you, but he also does not treat you as a child. So, I feel if someone asked me about Wicca Books that actually help you with your practice and are not the usual 101 fluffy models, this book would be included in my books to recommend. A nice presentation, and some solid information for the working Wiccan Practitioner. Boudica
