Ad le and her younger brother, Simon, have just arrived in New York City to visit their Aunt C cile and prepare for a grand train trip around America. " Please try not to lose anything on our trip," Ad le tells her brother with a sigh. But how can Simon remember to keep an eye on his belongings when there are so many wonderful distractions and astounding sights to take in? The endearing team from Ad le & Simon returns in a crosscontinental adventure that reflects the vitality of early twentieth-century America, from the Boston Public Garden to San Francisco's Chinatown. Stunning pen-and-ink-andwatercolor illustrations are filled with innumerable hidden treasures, and endpapers featuring a period map of America extend the fun. Ad le & Simon in America is a 2009 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.
I ordered the first Adele and Simon book because my niece in France is named Adele. She teaches elementary school so I thought this would be a treat for her and her students. This second book is just as fun. Enjoyable story. It is fun to look carefully for the missing items.
Another fun addition to the Adele and Simon books!

For me the book looses a little of it's charm because it isn't set in Paris. That said, it is quite fun to see the various states the siblings travel to, and it's even more fun since it all takes place in a former era. There's multiple things that Simon looses along the way, each one hidden in the delightful illustrations. Yet the great thing about these books is that there is just that tiny bit more to them than just a hunt-and-find picture book, there's a little heart, a little story, and little message. Nothing truly astounding, but lovely all the same.

This book is well written and the drawings excellent. The children of story hour at the library loved looking for the hidden item on each picture. Our community enjoyed the book especially the pages about the farm as her grandparent's farm was used as a model and located nearby.
