An extraordinary story of Buddhist life for rural nuns and monks in Tibet before the Chinese invasi

An extraordinary story of a simple Tibetan Buddhist monk and nun caring for a rural temple in the Kham region who must decide to stay or flee after China’s invasion. Told across three generations of Tibetan women, this book is full of key cultural moments of Buddhist life and death at the top of the world, life in India as Tibetans-in-exile, and the contrast of the life of the granddaughter born in the west. I’m on my second reading. Can’t recommend this enough.
