Excellent book for serious programming, NOT for beginners

The code in this book and that supplied on the CD was marvelous at helping me solve some serious problems and questions I had in a major database last year. I found it easy to understand and it was real life! Not something simple that no one can use.I also emailed the author with a comment and received a reply within 2 days! I was impressed to say the least.I teach VB And Access classes and tell all my advanced Access students (and those in VB that use Access) to get this book.

Absolutely not for beginners

I have read and used the book, and it is what it claims to be- Power Programming. It is definetely not for the beginners and also not for new "intermediates". The author takes the reader from the day-to-day realities of this world into an immense ocean of real programming and shows how an application be finalized. Some information (such as moving to client/server mode) is presented in a very elegant way. My thanks go to both the author and the publishers.

a book lives up to its title

I really like this book because it's so right down to the point, very effective and accurate, and easy to read. There are too many Access books out there are either too big or spend too much time to cover as much various level of audience as they can. This book is not very comprehensive in that sense and it does not cover a lot of basic (but necessary) materials for beginners. But for what it covers, it covers so well. I would not recommend it as your first (and only) Access book (for above reason). But for those who want to reach out beyond the basics, it's an excellent book to own.

Best Access programming book for all programming levels

This is my favorite Access book - and I have them all. Mr. Barker begins with THE BEST! review of VB syntax and constructs required for Access and the Access DAO hierarchy. Next, he presents data manipulation techniques, especially using SQL, as it relates to Access. The rest of the book is chock full of tips and tricks on developing "Professional" Access applications. I especially like Chapter VI, "The Finishing Touches." Here, he includes lots of code every Access application should have. Leverage it! As an Access instructor for three years, I recommend this book to all my students because of its introduction of VB, Access code, and DAO. It's the best review. As President and Professional Developer, I mandate this book (and others) to my employees and consultants as a reference on how to DO IT RIGHT, and for its wealth of resources (i.e., Chapter VI).

Best book that I have read on Access Programming

This book jumps right in to Access VBA does not waste space on Access fundamentals. It covers just about everything you can use in Access VBA. It gives you all of the sample code, some good API calls and ActiveX control information. A little light on WEB development but that's not the purpose of this book
