Natasha Dennerstein's "About a Girl" is a complex and compelling work that turns on a dime to tell the story of a life through shifting perspective and rhythm. This exquisitely crafted novella in verse reads like a great rock album, the book includes Bowie and T-Rex and it reminded me in equal part of the musical Tommy, a work which also deals with a troubled adolescence. Dennerstein is an innovative and radical poet and this work bursts through genre boundaries in incredibly satisfying and exciting ways. The content fits the form perfectly, this story could have been written in no other way and by no other writer.
