Good Purchase

I bought this book in my quest to obtain all of the Biblical Women novels by the late Henderson. I was glad to receive Abigail: A Novel in good condition, and on time.

Biblical Fiction at its best

From the cover: In the exotic setting of King David's world, Henderson spins the fascinating tale of Abigail, the free-spirited and beautiful wife of the warrior monarch. The story is colorful and credible, based on the two dramatic books 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel, and embellished by the author's rich imagination and faithful attention to biblical fact.

Surprisingly good

The cover was old when I picked it up and I put it on my shelf for a long time. I started reading it on the treadmill and couldnt put it down. I found myself reading this book every spare moment. Ms Henderson has an art for making a good story with not too many ingredients. It wasn't too mushy or too corse. In other places it was brutal but true to the time period. Yet the story remained simple but good and true. Writers today think they have to give you an enormous amount of historical detail to make a story good. Ms Henderson has proved that thats not necessarily true. Get this one.

Awesome Christian reading!!

If you want a book that brings Bible characters to life, get this one!! I love reading books about women of the Bible, and this is one of my favorites! I think it is so awesome that a writer actually takes one of the lesser known women in the Bible and transforms her into a woman we can relate to. The author places the reader into a biblically accurate setting with bibically accurate events. Also, you can get a real feel of how the original women felt. I mean, the book portrays them as real women with normal feelings instead of a perfect - not doubting - type of woman they are sometimes portrayed. Other books by this author I have read are Ruth and Lydia and Miriam. All of those are great reads also!

Excellent read!

This is a most interesting account of the life of Abigail, wife of King David. On a personal level, it helped me understand that when things are not going the way I want, perhaps I am short sighted. God's will is ultimate. I like to compare different fictional accounts of Biblical characters. Others authors include J. Shott, R. Knor, and Traylor. Worth reading.
